Thursday miscellanea #587

  • I held a department meeting this week. I chose Stovehouse at lunchtime. I will do so again.
  • I had to get rid of my second long beard ever. I’d love to grow one to the point that gravity overwhelms the curl, but I never get there. When it gets long enough to start thinking about that, it’s so dry that I have to oil it constantly. And oiling it constantly is expensive and messy. So, gone. I’d have been a bad Amish man, and not just in that way.
  • Lea and I are watching Broadchurch now. I had rejected this one after one episode some time in the past, but upon watching it again I’m not sure why I did. Maybe I’m just harder-core on the British mysteries now. (And I’m resigned to the closed-captioning now too, which may have eased acceptance of this one the second time around. Accents are particularly thick.)
  • I am returning to a familiar and favorite haunt next month for We Are Huntsville. Watch for another engaging piece on some of my favorite food in the area. (Oh, and go check out my visit to Wahlburgers now!)
  • The CDC issued new guidance on masks for fully vaccinated people today. It’s not quite “dispense with them,” but it’s close.
  • The GMR Grand Prix, on the road course at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, is Saturday afternoon at 1:30 on NBC. This has become one of the most exciting road course races on the schedule, and we’re looking forward to it.
  • No griping about no spring when it finally gets hot. We have had so many gloriously mild days and cool evenings!
