Thursday miscellanea #559

  • The current going-away-to-the-University-of-Alabama experience for an incoming freshman is rather limited right now. Some of these limitations are sensible. Others are not. My favorite freshman badly needs of a typical university experience. I really hope he starts getting it soon.
  • I can’t remember whether I’ve shared this Amazon.com power tip, so if it’s a repeat, sorry about that. If there’s something you want to order but you don’t necessarily need it immediately, put it in your cart and “save it for later.” When you’re back on Amazon, you’ll get notifications about price changes, and in my experience they almost always go down, not up. I had previously paid $54.99 for an item that was priced at $60.99 last week. I saved it for later then, and I just ordered it for $42.61. Score.
  • Our church plans to meet this weekend for the first time since March. There are understandably all sorts of restrictions, but I still can’t wait. I miss corporate worship so much.
  • Pro tip from opinion journalist and social media acquaintance Kimberly Ross:  “Twitter instantly improves when you realize you aren’t required to respond to or react to anyone.” (This works very well on Facebook too.)
  • I know you miss restaurant reviews. Several of you have told me so. I miss them too. I’ve missed a couple of good opportunities to do a Freddy’s review, right from my own home. I’ll get back on it soon.
  • The inaugural Music City Grand Prix is coming to Nashville in August 2021, and it looks absolutely amazing. The two long straights across the Cumberland River ought to be speedy indeed.
  • We have glorious temperatures forecast through the end of the month! I think I’ll make chili this weekend.

  1. Yes to the Chili. Ugh to the college experience. But, you know what? Maybe this generation will be a generation of real problem solvers in the face of adversity! We can hope!
