I have no particular heartache over young starlets who self-immolate and destroy their careers—except when they’re obviously very talented. See Lindsay Lohan. See also Miley Cyrus.
I understand this is a few years old, so I’m typically late to the party. Plus, it seems not to have changed her stock much.
I had envisioned Miley Cyrus redeeming herself in a tasteful black dress at a baby grand piano, with a graceful and understated entry and exit.
But, whatever. If this kind of thing is occasionally punctuating her career, perhaps there is hope. She did a great job with one of the greatest songs by one of the greatest songwriters of the past century.
Maybe Ms. Cyrus will be there on the other side and have a respectable, lengthy career.
Dear talented young ladies: slutty is easy and predictable. Please, dig in and demand to be seen and heard on a basis of artistic merit.
