There aren’t many, best I can tell, but a few voices have now risen to scold all of us who disapprove of Governor Bentley and want his resignation. It’s his personal business, take the plank out of your own eye, and what-not.
For the record, I don’t want to know about his private life, and I fully realize that I will not sit in judgment of him.
But I think the bar for demanding that he quit is rather lower than that. We do not need a courtroom standard of evidence here. It is reasonable to conclude that Governor Bentley has behaved badly. It is further reasonable to conclude that his continued presence in office embarrasses and damages the state of Alabama.
With a second ethics complaint filed and articles of impeachment being drafted, I’m beginning to wonder whether he’s all that smart, frankly. He apparently believes he’s going to survive. He’s tweeting as if his career and reputation are not in shambles.
I don’t want in Governor Bentley’s business. I just want him out of our house.
