Thursday miscellanea #356

  • Well, at this point I’d say it’s either post-viral cough or lung cancer. Check with me at Christmas (he said, chuckling morbidly).
  • My older son’s capacity for discovering urgent tasks at 10:00 pm on a schoolnight is absolutely incredible, and seemingly wholly unaffected by copious parental inquiry at more opportune times. I wonder if it would be affected by copious loss of privileges?
  • Apparently Slash and one W. Axl Rose are about to announce a Guns N’ Roses reunion tour of some sort. No thanks. I saw GNR twice back in the day: once about six months before they were the biggest band in the world, and once when they were the biggest band in the world. They were easily the sloppiest big-name act I ever saw (and I saw Motley Crue on Girls, Girls, Girls—the last drunk/drugged tour; a show in which Vince Neil called us “Des Moines” more than once). For all the truly great stuff Guns N’ Roses recorded, they sucked live. I don’t expect an additional 25 years on them to manifest positively.
  • I see this commercial a lot watching football, and I stop and watch it every single time. Alisha Clark’s smile and accent are absolutely precious. I adore Southern women!
  • All of the rain has extended fall soccer considerably. A programming collision with the Mississippi State game seems likely. Fortunately, I have a solution.
  • Lea’s exploration of Aldi continues apace. The knockoff Fudge Stripes are perfect.
  • I thought there might be an Xbox One Elite Wireless Controller under our Christmas tree. Maybe not. Some scuttlebutt says early December; other says spring. I ordered one tonight. Amazon.com will let me know when it has an estimated ship date. It would seem that Microsoft would have done well with a higher price.

  1. Re: #2 – Nothing makes my head spin around backwards quite like that. And yes, empirical evidence suggests removal of phones & other electronics results in significant improvement.

  2. Wish I had the same experience that Jenny did re: #2. My 13 year old daughter seems to have the same problem. Taking away electronics, etc. has not worked. Still looking for a solution!

  3. Rain has only prolonged Nate’s soccer tournaments by a few days (should have been last Sat/Sun, instead of late this week), but given how good his team is, I suspect his team will have games in Hartselle (state tournament) coming up.
