- Beth has selected The Sparrow for our next Alabamians Can Read title. I’m looking forward to it.
- Forrest Gump is coming back to theaters next month for its 20th anniversary. It remains a skillful film, and it was the first thing Lea and I saw together. I don’t think it’s aged particularly well, though.
- Outsiders, Greenbow is not a real town. Bayou La Batre is, though. It has a significant Vietnamese population, interestingly, largely because the shrimping industry there is similar to that in Vietnam.
- We’re about to lose Casey Kasem. Hate that, and hate that it’s been so bizarre.
- After his Indy 500 misfortune, Tony Kanaan has finished third, ninth, and sixth to climb into ninth in the standings. If it’s going to happen for him, it’s going to be like this. (Need a bit of bad luck for a few others, admittedly.) Keep near the top; podium here and there; then pick off a win or two. Maybe Iowa? He’s strong there every year.
- Is Danica Patrick headed to F1 year after next? I’d prefer she come back to IndyCar, but I’d take that too.
- iPhone 6 has a 4.7″ screen! I feel a little bit sorry for lockstep Apple drones.
- See you at the Father’s Day Weekend Inferno at Anaheim Chili. Please, share this event on Facebook!

Cheryl, my six-doors-down neighbor and friend Jason is growing a tremendous variety of superhots as I type, including the Carolina Reaper, currently the hottest documented pepper in the world. (First cultivated a mere 128 miles from where you’re likely reading this!) 🙂
The Carolina Reaper ranges from 1.5 million Scoville heat units to 2.2 million SHU. The hottest thing I have yet consumed is CaJohn’s Mongoose sauce, which is a solid 800,000 to 1 million Scoville heat units.
(The very hottest jalapeno tops out about 10,000.)
I have promised to eat an entire Carolina Reaper pepper on camera and publish the results. (My son has promised the same, though I’m going to make him watch me before he makes his final decision.)
Stay tuned!
