Thursday miscellanea #217

  • I’m coming back from a missing two days, and Lea’s headed into hers.  It’s not flu, but it’s definitely worse than a cold.  You know that glorious sort of fever where if you get out of bed to get a drink of water or something, you’re convinced you’ll never, ever be warm again?  Sheesh.  I’d have much rather just gone back to work yesterday.
  • By my count, the SEC is 3-3 in its bowl games so far.  Meh.  The Outback Bowl has been the most exciting one to watch (that ended well).  And, hearty plaudits to Vanderbilt for its 9-4 season!
  • Just finished Hunter S. Thompson’s book on the Hells Angels.  (Seemed like it’d be interesting sick reading.  It was.)  I’ll restart Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas next.
  • For now, the boys seem to have gotten over “Gangnam Style” on their tablets over, and over, and over, and over…
  • There’s a lot to be said for federalism.  Jonah Goldberg has an excellent column giving a concise definition of it, as well as an extended example of why it should be our goal.
  • I’ve never once taken a photo of that silly little square pattern that’s supposed to get me more information about a product or service.  Does it do something a search engine won’t?
  • Looks like weather is going to be seasonal for the next couple of weeks.  Winter is still my least favorite season, but it should be winter.  So I like that.

  1. I think the QR code thing is just a stupid trend. All they ever are is just URLs. The same ones you can easily find on google as you mentioned.

  2. I guess the vision was phalanxes of consumers, moving through with phones at the ready, desperate for product information and drunk with lust at the thought of having it for a single button push.
