So I’ve used my Kindle Fire for magazines, which I’m mostly all right with. I’ve used it for the Bible, which I’m mostly all right with. However, I just started reading my first novel on it (on account of The Hunger Games trilogy being free to borrow for Amazon Prime members), which I’m mostly not all right with. I find that if I turn the brightness down to about 10%, read in low light, and look at the screen at an angle, it’s tolerable.
Yeah, that’s not exactly a ringing endorsement. I don’t know what it is about reading a novel that is so much different from reading a magazine article, but the former is very fatiguing without the above prep. I’ll read Catching Fire and Mockingjay like this, mostly because I’m reading at the same impatient what-happens-next pace as I did The Hunger Games, and it seems silly to buy them when I don’t have to, and I’m still not sure I want a Kindle with an e-ink display.

Even if the talk isn’t related… It’s funny.
Really? I’m exactly the opposite. I’m so addicted to my Kindle that I’ve found myself buying books that I own in book form to re-read on the Kindle. Of course, most of my reading is done outside in the evenings/nights so maybe that’s why.
I like to sit outside in the quiet with the dog and read…don’t judge….it’s my downtime.
Carey, I hope you don’t think me rude, but you’re going to have to give me the gist. Investing 17 minutes in someone I’ve never heard of is too much to ask. 🙂
Marianne, with a Kindle Fire? Or a Kindle with an electronic ink display, that is designed to mimic paper?
And what did you say that I would/could “judge”?
The gentleman in the talk is a book cover designer and he’s funny. I assure you, you’ll like the talk.
Besides, it’s a http://www.TED.com talk. Few of those are bad talks. Lately, I’ve found myself browsing the site listen to talk after talk.
Kindle Fire.
Sitting outside alone in the dark reading.
There’s a ton of free books out there for the Kindle. I’m reading all of the Sherlock Holmes stories.
I may have to buy another—with the e-ink display. I just can’t read that backlit display for long periods.
