So I understand Google+ is live to everyone today. Also, lots of people are incensed that Facebook has changed itself around again.
You know, one of the main things I tell people who aren’t on Facebook because they “don’t have time” is that it scales well. You can check in for a minute a day just as easily as you can spend four hours a night on it.
I suspect I’m becoming that sort of social media user. I was excited about Google+—for a week or two. Actually today was the first time I’ve logged on in some time. And I just kind of noticed this week that I can’t remember the last time I spent even as much as a continuous half-hour on Facebook.
I’ve really enjoyed the old connections. I’ve enjoyed the new connections, and a large part of that is the control I have over them. I enjoy telling hundreds of people at a time about a new post on my blog, and watching some significant number of them check it out.
But I think I considered social media sites more destinations than tools once, and that’s easing back the other way for me now. Oh, they’re there, and I’ll continue pointedly extracting value from them. But is anybody else getting that “enough already” vibe too?
