- In the continuing quest for drinks that taste good but have no downside, Lea bought some rooibos a while back for me to try. It was a bit strange for me the first time. I tried it a second time to evaluate its replay value, and it started to grow on me. Now I’m pretty much into it. If you drink herbal tea and haven’t had rooibos yet, give it a shot. (And if you normally add sweetener to your tea, try this straight first.)
- Downtown restaurant 801 Franklin closed yesterday. Couldn’t tell you the first thing about the place. I don’t think I ever went once in the eleven years it was open.
- Did you see that the notorious hacker group Anonymous intends to take Facebook down on Guy Fawkes Day?
- Speaking of, I’m not sure how the wave started, but the geography-based memory groups are huge on Facebook right now (you know, “you know you’re from (location) if…”). I’m loving the Anniston one. It’s amazing how resonant seemingly insignificant remembered details of life can be.
- I’ve been digitizing VHS continuously for more than a week. It looks like I’ll be finished with sucking it all in by Tuesday or so. I’m doing some early MTV right now that I forgot I had, courtesy of my old Usenet buddy Mort. Guess what? The Cutting Edge is still haughty, self-important crap, 27 years later.
- Television shows have obscured things like license plates, house numbers, and so forth for some time now. I understand that. But have you noticed they’ve started doing brand names and logos too? I recently saw an in-car shot from a real estate show, and the logo in the center of the steering wheel was blurred. Why?

If you watched The Cutting Edge you must have also seen The Young Ones? I have that digitized. Surprisingly I still find it funny 25 years later.
funny you mentioned the blurring of a logo, we were watching a show last night and they blurred a polo logo.. I started laughing….do they think we don’t know what that is!
Lee, I was never a huge fan of The Young Ones, but I understood what was appealing about it.
Jennifer, I doubt there’s any sustained logic to it. I think it got some accidental traction, and now everybody does it because everybody does it.
