Thursday miscellanea #107

  • I had my first Double Down meat bomb this week.  As a connoisseur of ridiculous fast food items, I’d love to give this a huge thumbs-up, but it was just okay.  It was more gray than golden brown, which was vaguely disturbing.  The BK Quad Stacker‘s crown is safe.
  • We sleep against a cool breeze and the glorious white noise of a window fan, and our air conditioner hasn’t been on for a week.  Hello, October.  Nice to see you.
  • Zero tolerance, zero common sense, chapter 734,892.  Remember a simpler time when we used, you know, adult judgment for these things?
  • Mmmm, Terrapin Hopsecutioner.  It might be love.
  • I was in Publix yesterday, and my cashier was a cheerful 65ish man.  He was wearing a Speedmaster.  I asked him about it—after your handshake and your eyes, the next thing I notice about you is your watch—and he said his wife gave it to him in 1974 when he was in the Air Force.  He said it’d been in for an overhaul twice in that time, and it had performed very well for him.  In our disposable society, it’s very cool to see a 36-year-old watch in daily service.
  • During my recent look at the Anniston area, I was surprised to see some of the road construction I saw.  There’s some massive stuff going down at the intersection of 21 and 431, for example.  Yet, the number of people in the area doesn’t seem to have increased significantly.  I don’t get that.
  • Sometimes I’m lucky enough to be looking at my visitor logs when I see a user access post, after post, after post, after post…and the time spent on the visit just goes up, and up, and up…  Love it.  What an ego boost!

  1. I’m included in your last bullet, Bo. I find myslef jumping around your old posts and re-reading many of them several times. You’re an entertaining writer, man.

Or… Maybe I just miss hanging out and bullshitting with you.

  2. Common sense? What’s that? Next, they’ll just take the offenders out behind the gym and drop the blade of the guillotine.

One of the top ten reasons that I refuse to put my kid in public school.

  3. you were in the Anniston area and didnt call… and I live only about 3 miles from the 431/21 intersection… As far as population in this area, it has grown, you just have to know where to look (or avoid!)

  4. Lori, it was a breeze-in-breeze-out. I was on the ground in Oxford at 6:55, and had pulled out of Heroes south of Jacksonville by 11:30. (I did advertise my presence in the Anniston area on Facebook…)
