Thursday miscellanea #94

  • Aaron got glasses this week.  Now we’re 4 for 4 at our house!
  • Robert Byrd has died at 92.  I found him largely obnoxious for a number of reasons, and as I said of Kennedy last year, I’m not sorry his legislative voice is silent.  Certainly a memorable figure, though.  God be with his family and friends.  RIP.
  • I’ve had that godawful Stevie Nicks and Kenny Loggins duet in my head for two days now.
  • I saw a commercial for adult gummy vitamins the other day.  Oh, come on.  Really, you sissies?  Can I expect the Metamucil label to begin sporting balloons and choo-choo trains next?
  • Know what sucks?  Those coiled garden hoses that look like gigantic telephone handset cords.  The cheap ones suck.  The expensive ones suck.  They kink, they get tangled, and the water pressure is weak.  If you get a clear one, algae grows in it.  Western society is decaying, in part, because of coiled garden hoses.
  • Wonder Woman is getting a makeover.  I only had to read the headline to know the American flag look of her costume would be significantly diminished or altogether eliminated.  I’m sure that part is just a coincidence, though.
  • I’ve decided the perfect balance for a city is being small enough that you can get from any one point to any other point in half an hour or less, but large enough to support good Vietnamese and Thai restaurants.  It’s good to live here.

  1. Consider yourself lucky. I’ve had Ke$ha’s “Tik Tok” in my head for the last few days, thanks to my 9 year old.

  2. The wonder woman thing pissed me off. Like you, I knew the Americana would be eliminated from her suit. What has happened since 9/11 to cause all this self-loathing we got going on here? Honestly, where in the world would these folks truly want to be?

As for the gummy vitamins, I definitely see there purpose for old-folks who have trouble swallowing large pills or chewing hard items. ( mom has arthritis in her jaw – causes pain when she tries to chew something like that ) I only find it weird that they are marketing them to people in our age group.

  3. Wonder Woman…the new SpiderWoman! That’s what I thought when I saw the new rendition. Who’s next Captain America?

Yes, it’s strange that gummy vitamins are being marketed to our age group. I have a child who has trouble swallowing large pills, so she would benefit from them. They’re just not my thing.

  4. I love gummy vitamins! I take the kid’s gummy vitamins regularly. If I have to swallow those dang horse pills the adults have to take… no thanks. They are marketing this new vitamin directly to me! :-p

    No Lynda Carter, no sale!

  6. Jenny, can she sing? I can’t decide. I see that video in the desert from time to time, and she sounds ok to me, but you can’t tell anymore. It could be flowing mostly from a computer.

I take the point on the gummies for older folks. ‘Seester’s got it right: my problem is with them marketing to us.

BamaDan, Lynda Carter is 58 and still smokin’. No cosmetic surgery either.

    Terri, Jenny B: Thanks!
