A day made lazy

Had planned to take the boys geocaching with Saintseester today. We had talked about it last week, and as it turned out, today was the only day of the three-day weekend with a decent weather forecast, so I was looking forward to it.

Alas, as has happened time and again this winter, a pathogen has altered our plans. Nathan has strep throat, so that’s pretty well immobilized us.

It always re-amazes me how much better children tolerate fever. His is just under 103 ºF, and he’s a bit sluggish, but still in relatively good cheer. I’m pretty floppy by 100.5, and thoroughly miserable north of 101. Maybe I’m just a wimp.

So we’re making an inside party of it. Lea found us some pretty and reasonably-sized ribeyes when she went out for Nathan’s prescription, and I’ll grill those in a bit. Believe I’ll have an Anchor Liberty Ale with mine.

Our after-dinner entertainment shall be The Sandlot. Seems an appropriate time of year to add that to Nathan’s mosaic.

  1. Sorry you guys missed out. Lizzie and I had fun, and I managed to get all up in the mud. I wonder what people think – how on earth did that woman get mud all over her just walking up and down a paved path? I managed to release a travel bug that I held onto much too long, so now I can rest free of guilt tonight.

Lawrence, on the other hand, has come down with his own fever today.

  2. Gah! Is there no end to the YUCK!?

I was sitting at the health club on Friday, waiting for my room to empty out so I could start my class, when one of my coworkers walked by. She stopped, looked me over, and in the course of our conversation said something to the effect of “I hear that since you started Yoga National Guard, you’ve just fallen apart.” *I* don’t think I’m coming apart, but I seem to be giving that impression…

I’m sorry the boy is sick and yes, it is amazing how small ones tolerate sick. It’s a good thing, too, given how often they’re stricken with their little virgin immune systems. Tell him Auntie Chili wishes him healthy with a smooch on the forehead (that always makes me feel better….)

  3. Thanks for the empathy, my D&S cohorts. (hugs)

Now Lea’s flat on her back. It’s down to Dad and Aaron.

I feel like Arnold Schwarzenegger smooching Rae Dawn Chong at the end of Commando, as the seaplane lifts into the air and the music comes “Someday, somehow, someone’s gonna pay…”
