CBS confirmed today that Drew Carey, stand-up comic, star of a successful and long-running eponymous sitcom, and host of the American version of Whose Line Is It, Anyway?, has been hired to host The Price Is Right this fall.
Drew Carey is a marvelous choice. He is quick, personable, and brings enough charisma to the Price stage that he might survive as more than a sacrificial, following-Bob guy. I think he’ll do a fine job of balancing decorum and tradition, perhaps ratcheting up the humor just a click or two toward edgy, whilst simultaneously avoiding the thresholds of offense for Price‘s more conservative viewers.
Congratulations, Drew. Best of luck to you.
Don’t fuck up my show.

I never watched the Drew Carey show – not because of any bias or anything; it just never really caught on with me – but he CRACKS ME UP on Who’s Line. Of course, I think that show’s a screaming riot anyway, and I love it when Colin and Ryan get Drew going SO HARD that he can’t do his commercial break spiel. Funny, funny stuff…
I think its a bizarre choice really. Bob was so tan handsome and slender and proper… its like your going from the straight man Bud to Lou the cut-up all of a sudden. But perhaps it might bring in a younger audience…? I watch Who’s Line all the time and I think he’s a pretty good host – but Colin and Ryan and the other regulars are the stars of the show and Drew kind of takes a back seat.
Well, apparently I can still leave comments, at least.
Blogger has informed me that its spam-detection robots have determined that WmWms is a “spam blog,” so now I have to wait for a human being to review and whitelist it. Until then, I can’t post.
Free is expensive.
I’ve got to get moved to dedicated space and WordPress. I’ve been dragging my feet a bit on that, but this little incident has kicked it WAY the hell up my priority list.
WTF? You can’t even POST on your own blog? What am I going to read, then? Get away from them NOW!
Oh yeah, I’m done. I’m viscerally pissed.
