It’s a good day

Well, it’s mostly over for us, but it was a quite a storm or two this morning and afternoon. My rain gauge is sitting at 2.64″ since midnight, which is one hell of a lot of rain. We had about five minutes of hail this morning, too–mostly peas, but a few marbles. Good luck to the east and northeast, folks.

Nathan’s soccer game was canceled, so it’s been an official Inside Day. I wrote a bit over at Cowl Shake, and started programming my new scanner–a Uniden BC246T. My expectations for the software were low, but it’s actually pretty good. Naturally it will take me several weeks to get it just like I want it. (This is what inevitably happens when my generally anal-retentive nature and a whole lot of options collide, which is why it won’t bother me at all if I never own a car with 12-way power seats.) I did program our biggest local trunked system into it today without a hitch. And the alpha tags are 16 characters long! And it has dynamically allocated memory! And it scans at 100 channels per second (my old one only does 60)! Etc. Happy, if horribly geeky, times.

My dad is 63 today, so I took him his present and visited with him and Martha for a couple of hours. They’re doing well. Happy Birthday, Dad!

To cap it off in the evening, we’re having two families’ worth of our closest friends over for dinner. Nathan is excited about seeing Robin, Aaron is excited about seeing Joseph and Kendall, and Lea is working her formidable culinary magic as we speak. Smells Italian.

I dare say it’s a good day, even with the rain.
