The VW commercials with Peter Stormare

I sorta wanted a Corrado way back when—neat car—but the ’07 GTI is the first Volkswagen I’ve ever felt a bit of genuine autolust for. I dare not drive one until 2010 or so.

Even standing still, doesn’t that bad boy look like you’re tossing it into a switchback and lifting the inside rear at 65 or 70? And it’s even sharper in the metal than in photos.

The commercials are hilarious:

  1. “What happened to her?”
“Eh, she started shrieking, you know.”

Fargo is one of my all-time favorites, but I’d imagine it’s a little more poignant for you, Jeremy–it being set all over your stomping ground.

C., haven’t seen Lebowski in a while. Need to pull that one back out–or at least start having a White Russian for breakfast or something.

These commercials demonstrate why I don’t like universal denunciations of artists “selling out.” If they can do commercial work and remain true to themselves, go for it. I don’t think anyone would say Stormare was doing anything but some great comedic acting in these spots.

  2. I was in college at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND when they shot the film, and I recall that they had to use fake snow because the real stuff was rather hard to come by that winter. None of it was shot near Fargo itself, but I think they shot a few things north of Grand Forks both in ND and MN.

A bit of trivia–the car dealership in the Minneapolis area where they shot a lot of scenes was torn down years ago and is now the site of Best Buy’s corporate campus.
