  • So it got to be 10:30 Monday morning before I actively looked for coffee, and deciding there was value in the accidental head-start, I quit caffeine.  That hasn’t been fun, though yesterday was a little better than Tuesday.  I want to stay off long enough to get a solid read on whether and to what degree it affects my blood pressure and anxiety level.  That answer will determine the degree to which I resume.
  • I quit drinking for Lent.
  • Seen the trailer for Prometheus yet?  Wow.  I’m pumped.
  • Too many people whose musical tastes I respect are singing the praises of the Van Halen record.  Probably for me now it’s a matter of when, not if.
  • There are only five ovals on the 2012 IndyCar Series season schedule.  I hope this is a low, and that the series can support a few more for 2013.  (Of course, the question everyone’s afraid to ask is how much is Danica Patrick’s departure going to hurt?)
  • Nathan’s anxious about severe weather season.  I understand, because I’m anxious about severe weather season.  Sigh.  I love being able to say things like “no, son, ghosts will never get you because they aren’t real.”  This isn’t one of those, is it?
  • You know, whether it’s a ’66 Chevelle that won’t start, a dead left rear channel in your home theater, or perplexing supercollider experiment results, sometimes the answer is the same.

  1. I quit caffeine in a major way a few years ago. It was two of the worst 2 weeks I’d experienced. My symptoms were mostly migraine-esque: bad headaches and sinus congestion.

Now I pretty much avoid it whevever I go, at the very minimum never consume any significant amount. I figured out that clear soda’s (ie Sprite, Sierra Mist, 7Up) and root beers are caffeine free (except for Barg’s, which is still very low in caffeine).

I’m very conscious of any addictions, and caffeine was definitely one for me. I got to the point where if I didn’t have a large amount every 6 hours, I’d feel horrible, mostly with the symptoms described above. It’s a good one to kick, and it’s not hard to stay on the wagon.

  2. Thanks, Tahm. I was almost totally fine today with no headache at all, so I’m hopeful I’m going to get away with just a week of withdrawal symptoms.
