Thursday miscellanea #637

It may still rain a bit and the wind may still blow, but I’m going to go ahead and call today’s day of severe storms a bust where I am. I’m always thankful when the weather is neither as severe nor as widespread as forecast.
I’d been planning to give a discus aquarium a go, but when I looked into something taller than a traditional 55-gallon but with the same footprint, the tanks got dear in a hurry. Now I’m reconsidering what to do with the 55. The leading candidate right now is a heavily-planted pearl gourami aquarium. (My kids are pushing me to get another lionfish, but I don’t want to deal with the salt creep.)
Raquel Welch has passed away at 82. RIP.
I’ve been listening to The Who’s Tommy a lot this week, wanting to build opinions about it to compare with my opinions about Quadrophenia. While they both tell dark and relatable stories, I think the narrative of Tommy is more horrific. However, I find the music of Quadrophenia more brooding and appealing. Definitely both are timeless and impressive artistic achievements.
Tony Kanaan has announced that this May’s Indianapolis 500 will be his final IndyCar race. We were there for his first Indy victory. Hope he gets another one we’ll be there for! Thanks for the memories, TK!
It’s not a great time to buy a car, but someone ran into Lea’s Sienna and totaled it, so our hand was forced. We tried to stay used, but anything nice is just too close to the price of new. So she has a 2023 Odyssey. (Cars have changed a lot even in the past ten years. Wow.)
Got pulled into The Last of Us mostly on the strength of a recommendation from one of my favorite people on Twitter. I don’t usually let myself get sucked into watching before all the episodes have dropped, but I was weak. I don’t have much patience for zombies, but the relationships here are the big draw.
