Thursday miscellanea #628

  • I still let it surprise me how much elections consume some people. Yes, I know I used to write about election politics a lot more than I do now. Part of that is that I’ve changed, but I think part of it is also that it’s considerably nuttier than it was ten years ago.
  • One time I gave up being mad in traffic for Lent, and it was an excellent and sustained lifestyle change for me. Alas, it’s time for me to admit that I’ve nearly fully regressed. Active habit rebuilding in progress.
  • (Similarly, and probably relatedly, I’ve let a regimented weekday morning get away from me. Rebuilding that too.)
  • Nazareth lead vocalist Dan McCafferty died this week. The first Nazareth song I ever heard was not “Hair of the Dog” or “Love Hurts,” but “Holiday” (which was all over early MTV). He was a unique talent. God be with his family and friends.
  • “So if LSU loses to both Arkansas and Texas A&M…” Stop it. Just stop it.
  • The new record from Sammy Hagar and The Circle is called Crazy Times, and I’ve only listened to it straight through twice, but I’m digging it so far. It’s unpretentious, skillful, jammin’ rock ‘n’ roll of the sort that never goes out of style.
  • After tomorrow’s rain, there are no 60s forecast for a while. Suits me fine. I’m months away from complaining about cooler temperatures (if I even ever get there).
