Thursday miscellanea #610

So good having Mia home for an extra day or so this past weekend. We are so excited for her future and continue to be encouraged by her considerable progress. (Did I say something like that already? Maybe I did. I’m saying it again. I can’t begin to describe the difference in how I feel now versus how I felt a year ago.)
We’re about to begin a yearlong initiative at church that I’m excited to be part of. I’ll see how it goes before I write publicly about it, but it appeals to me because it feels real and necessary.
I’ve offered a bit of snark on the Auburn/Bryan Harsin debacle here and there on social media because, well, they deserve it. This is the piece I wish I’d written on it. Alabama has known severe dysfunction in its football program, but you know what the difference is? They didn’t marinate in it and decide it was their identity.
It’s as morally bankrupt as any entertainment of which I’ve ever partaken, so I’m not proud of it, but I binged Animal Kingdom more quickly than any show since Breaking Bad. I remember watching the AK pilot and not continuing. I’m not sure why. Now I can’t wait for the final season, which I suppose I’ll have to watch in real-time.

I’m as dispassionate about Super Bowl LVI as any I can remember. I’ll pull for the Bengals because Aaron adopted them at the beginning of the playoffs as his underdog favorite.
Haven’t decided on “real” Super Bowl viewing food yet, but I’ve already decided to make Chex Mix. We didn’t have any at Christmas, which is unusual. I put mixed nuts in it, and also bite-sized shredded wheat. Those make good flavor bombs because they soak up a lot. I’ve occasionally made blistering Chex Mix, and that’s a fun diversion sometimes, but most of the time I just make it a bit hot. Ground red pepper is the magic.
