Thursday miscellanea #594

  • You know what I did today? I procrastinated enough to have to write about food on a fasting day. Dumbass.
  • I still can’t quite process that Bill Cosby is out. I read today that he is in talks for a documentary. I can’t imagine what his victims are feeling. Being freed on a technicality comes nowhere near exoneration, so he remains a remorseless monster.
  • Alabama went undefeated and won the national championship last season, and it’s tough to argue with that. However, I would appreciate a defense closer to historic Tide units this season. Video-game scoring has its appeal, I suppose, but I don’t want to have to have it. We had to have it twice last year.
  • I was finally able to get single-day tickets for the Music City Grand Prix. We’re looking forward to it, but they were about twice what I thought they’d cost. However, as Badger said, “the price is the price, yo.” I hope the event is a sustainable success. Perhaps this festival food/music/racing model will help ensure that.
  • I watched both parts of Kisstory last night. To my significant surprise, there were some sights and sounds I hadn’t seen before. And, Gene and Paul were franker than I expected them to be about some things. On the negative side, there were significant events that were just omitted. I saw Mark St. John only once near the very end for maybe two seconds, and he was never mentioned. Only Eric Singer mentioned Carnival of Souls, and then only fleetingly. They jumped from Kiss Symphony: Alive IV to the End of the Road tour, as if there weren’t two interceding studio albums and multiple tours. And finally, the bottom line remains that they just stayed too long at the fair. Gene and Paul are acting like they can still do a Kiss show, and they can’t, and it’s embarrassing. There’s no shame in getting old. There’s considerable shame in pretending you haven’t.
  • I want combination wrench storage that isn’t a tool roll, and my colleague Bill found these when I asked on Facebook. I’m excited. They’re expensive, but best I can tell they’re peerless.
  • The humidity is occasionally unpleasant, but we’re about to hit Independence Day without sustained heat. I’ll take it. (This as the Pacific Northwest broils in record highs.)
