Thursday miscellanea #565

  • Ah, 565—my favorite interstate spur. We moved here right before construction on it began, which means that I actually drove here completely without it (remember the six-way intersection in front of the U.S. Space and Rocket Center?), as well as through a couple of temporary setups. I remember the initial signs had it marked north-south instead of east-west, which was really strange.
  • I thought I’d get a post up sooner this week, but the new North Alabama Human Trafficking Task Force site has been taking most of that sort of my spare time. We’ll have it rolled out in a couple more weeks.
  • Apparently the Huntsville location of Cantina Laredo has been permanently closed for several months. I don’t eat at a lot of chains, but the table-side guacamole there was pretty special. Anyone have a guac recommendation elsewhere in town?
  • Aaron, 16, is getting concerned about not knowing what he wants to do for a living. I kind of joshed him a little bit about it, but he’s taking it pretty seriously. So, I won’t do that anymore. But I did tell him that Papa Ross (my dad) was 40 years old before he knew what he wanted to be when he grew up. I think he felt a little better after that.
  • New killer application for Bachan’s Japanese Barbecue Sauce:  meat loaf. Very nice.
  • I was afraid IndyCar would end this season and football wouldn’t have made it because of COVID-19, but it appears to be hanging in there, despite a few hiccups. I’m (legitimately) happy I’m not facing a sports-less end of 2020.
  • Temperature just dropped 16 degrees in about an hour and a half. Hello, front.
