Thursday miscellanea #501

The verdict on the 36-hour fast is that I’m going to continue it as a weekly practice and see what happens. One of the things you learn when you’re trying to stop smoking is that when you have an urge to smoke, it will pass whether you light up or not. I found that thinking helpful and largely applicable to the hunger I experienced as well. (I did learn lying in bed last night that I’m following an awful lot of food photographers on Instagram, though.)
Star Wars Episode IX has a trailer and a title: The Rise of Skywalker. Predictably, there is apoplexy somewhere or another about every single detail. Yawn. I’m a real fan. I can’t wait. Also, my crush on Daisy Ridley is more legitimate than anyone else’s.
So some nitwit wandered into St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City with two full gas cans, lighter fluid, and two lighters yesterday. He has been charged with attempted arson. Thank goodness for alert security guards.
Kay Ivey says I-565 will be widened to six lanes from County Line Rd. to I-65. (Given everything that’s coming this will be significantly over capacity the day it is opened, but I suppose it’s better than doing nothing.) The project will make use of the “inside shoulders” where possible to minimize cost. Well, I took a look at part of the road to be widened this morning, and the inside shoulder isn’t wide enough for a proper bike path, much less a full interstate lane. There’ll be a lot of work to do, and it will be disruptive.
May try some Brussels sprouts this weekend in one of those new, delicious, bacony ways people have them now. My ubiquitous clandestine informants tell me Publix is a crap shoot, but Sprouts is consistently good.
“If you wouldn’t say it to someone else, then don’t say it to yourself.” How do you feel about that? I’m mulling, but I’m leaning toward “nonsense.”
