- Restaurateurs, the closed-on-Monday irritation is getting out of hand. I eat out during the week a lot, and Monday is as likely a day as any other. If you’re going to close for a day, how about Sunday? You know, like a normal business? Like just about the entire world when I was a child?

- Part of me is looking forward to football, but the feeling is so subdued. I think it’s going to be an interesting season for me.
- Amazon is coming out with a $50 dock that, more or less, turns a Fire HD10 tablet into an Echo Show. I use my Fire HD10 every day and I think it’s one of the best tech deals around, but having it behave like this doesn’t turn me on at all. But then, I never wanted an Echo Show. I still like my original, early-adopter Echo just fine.
- I have two Facebook friends who are dead. What’s your practice on that? Unfriend, or no? I immediately delete people who die from contacts on my phone, because I won’t be getting in touch with them, and that’s what contacts on your phone are for. Is FB different?

My understanding is that they close on Mondays because that is the day they need to do their supply stocking and such. Things they may need from other businesses…that need to be open at the time, but may not be on Sunday. When I was a kid, I only knew one restaurant that closed on Mondays (I seriously never heard of that as a regular thing until moving to Alabama) and that was a Chinese restaurant that my friend’s family owned. On Monday’s they went to Chinatown in Chicago to get all the things they would need for the restaurant the following week, as I mentioned above.
FB now has it set up where a family member can manage your account in the event of your death. I think families are using them like a legacy page, to share memories and such, though I agree it is a little odd. I have had a few pass away, and after a little bit, I “unfriended them.” I kind of see it as a security threat after a while.
OK, I can see that. But still, I think of the days of before we could pay at the pump for gasoline about the places that made me pay first. I never wanted to pay first because I didn’t want to make two trips into the building. As long as there were places that didn’t make me pay first, I shunned the ones that did. As with that, so with this. I still have more options than not on Monday, so I’ll loudly support those restaurants. If there’s ever a critical mass of places closed on Monday, then I’ll claim aggrieved class status and file for federal aid. 🙂
