  1. We measured just a tad over 9″ when we got up this morning. My short-legged dogs are having some issues with their morning constitutionals.

  2. If it wasn’t for the in game language (I know a few characters drop F-bombs, not sure if there’s a way to toggle to PG-13 language) and the rather atrocious DLC money sucking scheme, I’d highly recommend Evolve for you and the boys. It’s a great FPS that highly encourages down right requires heavy tactics and strong team play. I absolutely love games like that as opposed to the more mindless run and gun and repeat games. It’s very Left4Dead-esque if you’ve ever played that game.

How are you liking your fitbit? Do you find its accurate enough and doesn’t require much tending to? I wish something was reliable enough to take heart rates periodically throughout the day, but I haven’t heard any stand outs. Blood pressure would be super cool, but I haven’t heard anything taking a swing at that.

I saw a documentary about a large effort to sink an old air craft carrier to make a new reef. I believe they sank it somewhere in the Gulf of Mexico, but I could be mistaken. It was a really cool documentary, even involved some of the folks that actually server on the ship back in the WWII days. I don’t remember what channel produced it, but shouldn’t be hard to find.

    • Nathan was hot to get Evolve, but exactly what you said: the Amazon.com reviews have scared me off it. Getting out of pocket $60 for the game and then needing more than twice that more for DLC? Really? As far as language goes, that ship has largely sailed. The only forbidden game characteristics now are genuinely scary horror and morally repugnant gameplay, i.e. GTA. (I still think a sandbox of that scale, except one in which you were a good guy, and the content was tame enough to slide in Rated T, would be a huge hit.)

I have my Fitbit as part of the wellness program at work, and it’s really accurate in my experience. I’d like to get a Fitbit One but can’t justify the expense. So far. If you’re going to get one, I recommend that one. It’ll appeal to your nerdiness big-time.

      • Keep your eyes out for Crackdown. It’s the 3rd installment in the series, with the original Crackdown and Crackdown 2 being some of the most popular games that you never hear talked about for the 360.

The basis is you’re part of a squad of super cops, with capabilities to do super-human acrobatics, lots of explosions, not really any emphasis on gore. More a comic book feeling sandbox super hero game.

Hours of fun will be had. It was multiplayer on the 360 as well, though I’m not sure if they’ll support split screen.

      • Also, the DLC on Evolve is a bit ridiculous. It’s so confusing, I’m not even sure how it’s setup on the XBox One, b/c I’m pretty sure the DLC is arranged differently, per platform!!!

But having now played about 30 hours in a little over a week, I can tell you that most of the DLC is not worth worrying about.

The only things you’d want that I believe are unfortunately DLC, are the additional characters. That would give you more variety in the skills and weapons you’d have at your disposal. But even the starter characters work just fine, I still use many of the defaults, and many of them are becoming popular in the competitive circles (yes, there’s already tournaments spinning up for this game!!!)

Absolutely none of the DLC “skins” are worthy of a single penny. Every additional skin in the game literally took only as much effort as selecting a few regions of an existing skin, pulling up the color picker for those regions, and dragging the little dot to somewhere else on the picker. Apply, Save, $4.99 please. That’s literally what most of the ones I’ve seen have been. Some have a little more “glow” to them in spots…

There’s some… I want to call it irony, but I don’t know if that’s right, with the additional skins for the monsters. They are only marginally “cooler” looking, because they stand out a bit. But the “irony” is that, because they make you stand out a bit more, they diminish your ability camouflage in the environment, severely diminishing your survivability. As the monster, 75% of your game play is “don’t get found”. Being a glow stick in the dark woods does not help that.

I guess it’s ironic, because often people complain the DLC’s are “pay to win” (you pay for stuff that gives you an advantage over those that haven’t paid), but in this case, it’s pay to fail.

    • I love my fitbit flex. It is really accurate. I hear their next level up (charge?) has an HR version. Don’t know how well received it is or how well it works.

      • See, I’ve got a big problem with all of the most state-of-the-art stuff going into watches and bands. I like real wristwatches, and I won’t stop enjoying them the way I do today to wear a fitness gadget instead.

Fitbit? Microsoft? Whoever? How about making a clip for just the body of it, so I can take the band off and wear it that way?
