Lea and I messed up Aaron’s eighth birthday. He wanted a red-eared slider, which we generally (and, as it turned out, ignorantly) agreed to. When I started researching how to properly care for one, it became an impractical consideration in a hurry. Red-eared sliders need truly massive amounts of space.
Then, well, the issue languished (not for any good reason, but just as a casualty of regular hustle and bustle).
We did recently hoist it back to near the top of the list. After Lea and Aaron visited with the good folks at Animal Trax, the leopard gecko emerged as the new frontrunner. Today, one came to live with us.
Aaron has named him Frisco, which is a cool name, don’t you think?
Most leopard geckos in the pet trade are captive-bred, which I could have guessed. However, I didn’t realize that considerable variation from natural appearance has become the norm. This color morph is described as “emerine lavender tangerine.”
Happy Birthday, buddy. I am really sorry we took so long to get you your present.
(And thank you, Lea, for agreeing to share our house with a reptile.)
