I like Cincinnati fine. Been there a time or two on business, and a time or two on pleasure. It’s one of the only places I’ve visited about which I sincerely thought “you know, I might enjoy living here as much as I do northern Alabama.” There is a lot to do; it’s not far to several other exciting places; the people are nice; and the weather is mostly tolerable.
What it is not is a destination college football coaching gig. No particular offense to the Bearcats intended, but of all Division I FBS jobs, I’d put this one about a quarter off the bottom.
So what’s Tommy Tuberville doing nearly literally leaping to take it? I didn’t think it could get weirder this coaching carousel season than Bret Bielema to Arkansas, and it did so in less than a week.
Tuberville’s career has all made sense until now. What don’t we know about his time in Lubbock?

I never really understood why he left, or was forced out of auburn, either.
From what I’ve heard, he hated Lubbock from the minute he got there. His seat was also starting to get a little warm, from the altercation he had with his assistant coach a few weeks ago (slapping the guy’s headset off during the game). This may be a case of getting out while the getting’s good. Other speculation is that he thinks if he does reasonably well there for a few years, the SEC may come calling again.
I’ll see your Tuberville, and raise you a Petrino to Western Kentucky.
Beth, best I can figure, Tuberville never ingratiated himself whatsoever with Auburn royalty after Jetgate, and consequently he had no capital to spend when he eventually had a subpar year. He should still be down there now, by any reasonable measure. Look at the guy’s record, and consider that Auburn fired him. Absurd.
Jenny, looking that way, isn’t it? Part of me says it’s ridiculous to see it developing that way, as this is his fourth major stop, and who the hell does he think he is, right? But if he wins 17 games in the next two years, yeah—he’ll probably be able to get another gig in the SEC.

Sounds about right, my friend. 🙂
