Thursday miscellanea #164

  • Hello, December!  It’s a little joy and a little terror to hear that end-of-year clock ticking so loudly, isn’t it?
  • I read more than one place recently (when I became interested after a colleague’s comment) that we have tarantulas in Alabama.  Indeed, supposedly we have them all over the southeast.  Any local ever seen a tarantula in the wild around here?
  • I’m so pleased women’s boots have stayed “in” for another season.
  • Fired up the gas logs last night.  Had a neat shot of Knob Creek Single Barrel in a snifter with them.  Yeah, that’s 120 proof.  That needs a spot of water.
  • How do you make peace with rental beds?  I imagine that the only people to sleep in them before me were beautiful naked women.
  • Well, Ron Zook didn’t make it.  I hate that.  He’s another great guy who just doesn’t win quite enough to keep a head job in an AQ conference.  Here’s hoping he lands somewhere favorable, whether it be a head job somewhere smaller or a good assistant position, because he’s got a lot to offer.
  • I love Viet Huong, but if you’re not sitting down by 11:15, good luck.  I was craving Vietnamese yesterday but got loose at a poor time for it, so I went to Saigon in Madison.  I don’t like it quite as much, but it’s 90%, I think.  You ever think you’d see a Vietnamese place, two Thai restaurants, and a teppanyaki house in Madison?
