I attend Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, at the corner of Old Railroad Bed and Capshaw. We are a Red Cross-designated disaster relief shelter, and have been open 24-7 since early Wednesday morning. If you need a place to sleep, food, water, or whatever, you are welcome. Though you can receive something to eat anytime, fresh hot meals are available from 7-8 in the morning, 11-1 at midday, and 5-7 in the evening, for anyone who needs them (homeless, law enforcement, volunteers, and so forth). Please spread the word as needed.
At services this morning, we took Communion in our unlit fellowship hall, accompanied by all acoustic music. Yet as dark and primitive as it was, I felt so alive in Christ. Then David, our pastor, who is operating on very little sleep but still retaining trademark humor and wisdom, spoke of this disaster as being a prime time for us to shine as Christians. Perfect.
I think our role in clan BamaDan’s acute situation is diminishing, so I plan to spend some considerable time at church this week. Sadly, I suspect there will be opportunities for months to come.

Now that I’m back home, though the crisis with Mom is not quite over, I want to help. Do you know of any way of getting a collection of collectible teddy bears into the arms of young children who have lost all their comfort toys. I know it’s not much, but if even one bear helps a child feel a little more safe, I want to help.
Tami, that’s very kind. Making sure they’re used exactly like you say means you probably don’t want to just donate them blindly. Let’s think on it a bit.
