This computer has been dead for just about nine months. Best I could tell from deciphering its startup wailing, and a quick diagnostic to eliminate the power supply, it was the motherboard. Best as I could also tell, there wasn’t much financial point in trying to fix it. So I’ve been limping along on my laptop and the XP desktop I keep around for things that still need a serial port.
Been fine for blogging and surfing, but certainly hasn’t been much of a photos-and-video setup.
I just got a new computer, mostly for my birthday. (Thank you, dear family!) While I was waiting for it to arrive today, I shored Lea’s machine up with a new-to-her auxiliary internal drive, as well as an external backup drive. Then, I made sure I was ready to move the primary drive from the deceased box into my new one as an auxiliary. All of those missions are accomplished.
Now I’m moving onto my new box. I’ll get two-thirds of the way there tonight, and nibble at the last third for the next month. Making friends with Windows 7 isn’t hard. After all, most of this learning curve was consumed with Vista.
I’m delighted that it shipped polluted with such a small amount of crap. Bravo, Dell!
I’ll shoot for more substance tomorrow. Thank you for reading BoWilliams.com.
