Lea gave all of her guys (that would be everyone else in the house) journals for Valentine’s Day. We’re to keep them in prominent places and write positive things about our family in them, as they occur to us. She started mine awesomely:
Aww. Love you too, baby. Hope I can continue to carry that to your satisfaction, and may I say you’re an awesome wife and mother!
This was after our lovely dinner at Chapala, before which (during my drive home from work) she quickly and flawlessly preserved life and property in the face of a large lawn fire after a small one got out of control next door.
First she secured the boys. Then she secured the dog. Then she put the satellite fire right next to our house (see the dark bit right under the bedroom windows?) out with a garden hose. Then she moved my truck. Then she called me and told me to get home right now. I did. It was all over by the time I got there.
Shed’s not going to make it:
Add a composter and a sand table to the casualty list. You know what, though? Nothing perished that can’t be replaced. (And ask me how relieved I am that nine gallons of gasoline in this shed were stored on the opposite wall.)
Boys are a little freaked. Lea’s a little amped. I’m grateful for all of their flawless performances in the face of peril, and thank God they’re here to be freaked and amped.

So, how did the grass fire even get started?
So very happy to hear everyone is okay.
Like ‘seester, how did the fire start? That’s very scary.
My neighbor was burning a small amount of debris, and it got out of hand. It’s all good. He’s a good guy, it’s all going to be handled, and I’m just delighted no one was hurt.
You go, Lea! Grace under pressure.
Marianne, she’s amazing. I’m a lucky man.
Dayum. Sounds like you’ve got the right person guarding your back, dude.
(And it sounds like you totally make it worth her while.)
Kemtee, she humbles and inspires me. I am blessed. We are blessed.
