Thursday miscellanea #56

  • “They” have artificial hearts now that pump continuously.  No pulse.  No heartbeat.  Weird.  Imagine the bar bets to be won.
  • Roman Polanski drugged and raped a 13-year-old girl, then became a fugitive from justice.  He’s now been arrested, and it’s controversial because…why?  It was a long time ago?  He’s a nice guy?  He’s good at his trade?
  • Most of the original Jefferson Airplane reunited in 1989 for an album and tour, and MTV played a video for the song “Planes,” which I recalled as thoroughly silly.  I stumbled across it on YouTube earlier this week, and it was much better than I remembered it being.  The lyrics and the video itself remain easy targets, but I love the music and production.
  • By the way, Grace Slick, who was one of the most beautiful women in the world for a lot of her adult life, will be 70 this month.  (Feel old?)  She’s still attractive, but (laudably, in my view) refuses to indulge in the usual camouflaging vanities of aging glitterati, so she looks her age.
  • Alan Grayson is gutsy and in-your-face, because he’s a Democrat.  Were he a Republican, he’d have been excoriated for so casually using the word “holocaust” to describe health care in the United States.
  • I hope you’re getting comfortable with the idea of a nuclear-armed Iran.  I was always displeased with the Bush administration’s impotence on this issue as well, but at least they didn’t totally throw Israel to the wolves, as it seems the Obama regime is determined to do.
  • Go check out this guy who paints himself to match his surroundings.  Nifty, though I have my doubts about the last image.

  1. “Sacrifice” my aunt fanny….

And remember, anything a Democrat says is “okay” because Republicans have said outrageous things too. Nyah.

Am I the only one who thinks that this whole mess has deteriorated into a playground shouting match?

  2. It’s deteriorated into a shouting match because we’ve (we being the voting populace) refused to take things at face value any more. (That is a good thing). We seem to be waiting for congress to catch up to that idea, though. When they figure out that we want to hear details, reasons and evidence, instead of pie-in-the sky claims of savings, then things will get better.

  3. Always good to see Iran lobbing Shahab-3’s in the air to match the North Korean No Dong lawn darts that they lobbed towards Hawaii.

US Response? Kill the European Midcourse Radar program and slash MDA by 20%. Beg Russia to please stop selling things to Iran. It’s all fun and games until someone who is more than happy to kill themselves lobs a few missiles into Tel Aviv from 1200 miles away.

  4. Oh, don’t worry. Israel has more than enough fire power to take care of their enemies. They have enough weaponry to wipe out all the oil fields (and cities) in the middle east if they want. Bomb them back to the days when they lived in tents… And when they move, the Israeli armed forces are deadly serious.

  5. NHfalcon: Bring it! Looking forward to it.

kemtee: I certainly hope one of her subordinates remembered the organic kale.

‘seester: Interesting take. You know, I’d sit up and listen closely if I detected any sincere interest in genuinely solving the problem up there. I suspect millions would.

BamaDan: I’ll say it again many more times, I’m sure: I certainly hope we survive this president without a tragedy of war. Sadly, I have little confidence that we will.

Cheryl: One of Carter’s former goons is out there saying we ought to (militarily) confront Israeli attack aircraft over Iraq (presumably over which they’d fly to strike Iran).

I’ve been for turning Israel loose for a long time, and by that I mean avoiding diplomatic interference when they actually seek retaliation against their aggressors.

  6. Israel has plenty of FMS material we sold them, but don’t kid yourselves. This isn’t 20 years ago. Iran has about caught up. And some of those nuts would be more than willing to be bombed back to the Stone Age if it meant they got 3 or 4 good shots at the Zionists.

The entire DoD budget is 3% of the GDP. Less than medical expenses and Christmas shopping. We’re fighting (and building) with both hands tied behind our backs.
