The Palinator

Just remember, Sarah Palin is a flash-in-the-pan bimbo—a McCain blunder, really—who will never again be politically relevant on the national stage.  The audaciously hopeful among us have nothing to worry about.

  1. I really hope she’s just a flash in the pan and that the fire is out. Soggy and waterlogged out. Never to be reignited.

She does not and will never speak for me as an American Woman.

  2. I’m betting that if Palin looked more like Hillary, she wouldn’t have gotten nearly the attention. ;-P

For Lee: The “tolerance” of the left? How about the “tolerance” of the right when Palin was nominated and all the salivating right-wing guys just assumed that I, as a woman, would simply line up behind her. It’s more that she and I differ vehemently on several social issues.

Besides, sometimes someone just gives you the creeps. She gives me the creeps. Much like Bush Jr gave me the creeps … Something about him made me shudder every time he showed up in the news. Didn’t matter what he was saying or whether I agreed with him or not. The guy just creeped me out. Palin just creeps me out.

  3. I think Palin will be well positioned for the next election after the Dems run our economy in the gutter. She’ll be on record for cutting budgets and being frugal before it becomes fashionable.

  4. You know, I commented on something kind of like WXchick’s original comment over at Mrs. Chili’s blog. You’ve got an issue with Bush and Palin because they “creep you out.” And you wonder why sometimes the left isn’t taken seriously?

The issue over at Chez Chili was about how Obama is perceived by some to be the second coming, and that therefore ALL of his supporters are tagged as “starry-eyed.” Well, some of them ARE starry-eyed, and they can’t give you anything more specific about why they like Obama other than the fact that he “makes them feel better about themselves.”

If you want to be taken seriously, get specific. Present tangible evidence. Being “creeped out” isn’t going to cut it.

  5. Well, sometimes life choices come down to a gut feeling. Go find your own tangible evidence.

For the record, I don’t see Obama as the second coming. I don’t have stars in my eyes as far as the new administration goes. I have a very healthy distrust for anything most any politician says.

I believe Bush was a religious wingnut who used 9-11 as a dividing force in our country. I believe he empowered the religious right to become a decisive radical force in our government. He made those of us who are not Christian conservatives feel like non-Americans … especially if we’re gay Americans.

I also believe the man, who couldn’t even speak in coherent sentences most of the time, spent us into horrible deficits, which surprised the fiscal conservative in me to no end. And people say Democrats are the spendsters! Maybe all those billions spent on Iraq would have been better spent here at home shoring up our own economy? I don’t know … I’m not a financial wizard and I’m not sure anything could have prevented this current economic mess other than having some honest, non-greedy folks on Wall Street and in the CEO offices. I do know Bush tried some tax cuts and he tried a couple of stimulus payments to the citizenry, but I guess they weren’t enough or weren’t what was really needed. Personally I think the current mess is the Good Ship Lollypop righting itself after a malestrom greed and spending almost capsized it.

I do agree with most critics that the current “stimulus package” on the table is full of PORK. But how is it any worse than the “blank check” package that Bush gave to the banking, insurance, and Wall Street shysters?

Yes, I hope Obama lives up to his rhetoric, but I’m not sure he can. Loftly goals come into the White House and usually get battered down by the status quo that is bureaucracy.

  6. wxchick: Exactly what did Bush do that “empowered the religious right to become a decisive radical force in our government”? What did he do to make you feel like a non-American?

As I’ve made clear, there were several aspects of the Bush presidency with which I wasn’t thrilled, but I don’t understand these objections at all. There are several nations in which religious belief other than what the government dictates is hazardous to your health, but the U.S. isn’t one of them.
