Snow! Well, sort of

I guess our main mistake was raising the blind on the back door too soon this morning.  The boys caught a glimpse of what they’ve come to believe is “real snow,” and it was over.

I gated the dogs off the deck, Lea bundled the boys up, and they went out for five or ten minutes.  I think they scraped up about four snowballs.  As you can see in the photo, there really wasn’t any at all on the grass.

The way it’s going, they’re never going to know that (even in Alabama) when it actually snows, you can have a snowball fight for as long as your mom will let you stay out, and there’s enough around to make a snowman as tall as you are.  Despite promising widespread forecasts of 3″ or so, this morning’s yield was a joke.  Had this been a weekday, they wouldn’t have even delayed schools for this, much less closed them.

We just might have to take a weekend trip to the snow soon.  We’re down to only two or three years for which Nathan will even care anymore.

  1. If I knew the cooler wouldn’t be a pain in the ass, Auntie Chili would TOTALLY bring a load of snow with her when she comes in April. Lord knows we’ve got plenty to spare…

  2. Geez Bo. Is Nathan 80 years old? Don’t underestimate the power of snow. Any 6th grader still peers out the window when a few flakes fall. I’ve seen it first hand a few times. For what you’re talking about you’ve got more than 2 or 3 years with Nathan. Also, with your “county life” I’d suspect you would have at least had a two hour delay. I’m also looking forward to “Winter Storm 2009”!!

  3. I’m thinking there would have been a delay for the schools. I mean, they let the kids out for the threat of a thunderstorm, why not for actual flakes of snow? Of course, it wouldn’t matter that said flakes could be counted on one hand … ;->

Anyway, my sojourne to stained glass class on North Parkway early on Saturday morning was met with a closed I-565 (elevated portions) and a closed Parkway. How very annoying.
