Pumpkin patch

This afternoon we took what has become an annual trip to the pumpkin patch at Limoland, just a couple of miles up the road from Aunt Raetta’s house north of Pulaski.

It’s an excellent use of a Sunday afternoon.  We pick pumpkins, and there are mums for Mom.  There are some interesting animals to see.  I think they must collect tractors, because there’s a different restored antique on display every year.  There are hayrides, too:

This yellow bear caterpillar tried to come home with us on one of Lea’s mums.  He’ll be a Virginian tiger moth soon:

  1. So THAT’S what those caterpillars turn into, huh? Check off my “learn something new every day” box for today!

We USED to have a pumpkin patch up the street from us. Sadly, the farmer died and the wife, before the guy was really even cold, sold the land and it turned into what we backhandedly call “house farms” around here. About a dozen houses now sit where we used to buy pumpkins, raspberries, blueberries, and corn. It makes me profoundly sad.

  2. Yeah, that sucks. We were pretty far out seven years ago, but the sprawl is coming to get us.

It was a good time yesterday, but sheesh, was it hot. One side or the other of 90 for most of the afternoon.
