Wanton genetic recklessness

I’m myopic and have worn glasses for 31 years.  Lea is astigmatic and has worn them for 34.

Needless to say, our kids were doomed.

Nathan drew astigmatism.   But he can see well today:

Rather fetching, don’t you think?

  1. Between the recent hair cut and the new glasses, I’m having some serious mommy moments. He walks into the room and I think, “what a cute kid but where is my baby boy?” SIGH

  2. What a handsome guy! Wearing glasses isn’t so bad. I, too, wear glasses for astigmatism & near-sightedness. My daughter has inherited my eyesight problems. She takes it all in stride, though.

  3. azn8tive – Thanks. He handled it well. The first time he tried them on, he looked in the mirror and said, “yeah… I look good in these.” Of course, he, also, asked me when he would be old enough to get contacts. Hmmmm… we may have to talk about vanity at some point. Although, at this age, I’d rather him be that way then insecure.

saintseester – aauuugghhh! I don’t want to think about it!

  4. Mine wanted contacts, but it really isn’t vanity. His glasses fog up and annoy him when he’s playing sports. He chickened out when I took him this summer. He hasn’t learned how to put them in yet.

  5. WHAT A GORGEOUS CHILD! I know how you feel, though – both you AND Seester. My favorite thing to say, now that my babies are very precocious 8 and 10 year olds, is “who are you and what have you done with my BABIES?!” While I don’t miss the diapers at all, I really do miss that my children aren’t babies anymore…

Seester, if he wants some help, I have a great “trick” for putting lenses in…
