- The North Alabama Human Trafficking Task Force will be showing 8 Days, a film depicting a teenage girl’s abduction into and escape from sex trafficking, on Tuesday, July 24, at 7 pm at Good Shepherd. I’ll have more to say about it soon, but for now, save the date. Love to see you there. The event is free. Be advised that the film is not suitable for young children.
- Some people considerably younger than I am have cultivated an affinity for LP records. I understand this, to a degree. There is a certain ritual to it, and they’re not old enough to remember the pain it was to deal with it every single time you wanted to listen to prerecorded music. However, I’m calling BS on most of the claims of appreciating the sound of them. It’s maybe one setup in 50 that I see that is capable of delivering positives sufficient to outweigh the negatives of the vinyl experience.
- “Methane’s presence on Mars is puzzling, because it survives only a few hundred years at a time, which means that somehow, something on the red planet keeps replenishing it. ‘It’s a gas in the atmosphere of Mars that really shouldn’t be there,’ says NASA Jet Propulsion Lab scientist Chris Webster.” Hmmm.
- If you’ve ever spent any time in Auburn, AL or Huntersville, NC, make sure you’re screened regularly for this rare cancer, which occurs in those two cities at many times the expected rate. No one is sure why yet.
- No issues with abstention from red meat so far. Keeping chicken available makes a big difference, and has made this an easier adventure than my pescetarian month some years back.
- Alexander Rossi is quickly earning a reputation as a finger-pointer. Rossi led late in the second Belle Isle race last weekend when Ryan Hunter-Reay caught him and was probing for a passing opportunity. Rossi went into a turn too hot and locked the brakes, sliding into the runoff and handing the win to Hunter-Reay without a fight. Then, he basically blamed his team. Hey dude, you’re very talented, but this is your second high-profile mistake this season that you just flat haven’t owned. Admit you screwed up and move on. We’re all grown-ups here.
- Solo is being openly discussed as a failure now. I think this is ridiculous. I may comment on it further if I think I can say something interesting about it. Still mulling.

Had a long talk with my eye doctor today about this. He indicated some new information that I had not read about, yet. One tidbit is that it’s far more prevalent in blue-eyed folks and women. But the death rate is higher in men, due to a very small sample size, though.
I have two “freckles” that need to be monitored.
Yipes. Glad you went to get checked.
He said these are common, like moles. And i have one in each eye, which he says makes it even more of just a common thing for me.
