- Painful realization: I really have to be bald, or close to it. My hairline is so unattractive now that I don’t have any other options.
- Enjoying a fireplace evening here and there.
- Firing Mark Richt makes sense, from a certain point of view. Kirby Smart going to Georgia makes sense, also from a certain point of view. But I’m not at all sure these two things go together. If you’re going to fire a proven winner who can’t quite get over the hump, the only sensible replacement is a rock star. Smart is the hottest coordinator in the country, but I have the same amount of head coaching experience. We’ll see, but I’ll get on the record early: I think UGA made a mistake.
- Lea and I got each other a water heater for Christmas! It was 2:45 in the afternoon the day before Thanksgiving, and I’d already finished a beer. I went to replace a headlamp on Lea’s van and stepped on a squishy, soaked doormat. Big thanks to my dad for helping me with installation. Problem solved by 7:00. Merry Christmas, baby! (As I remarked on Facebook, it really is the problem of a very comfortable human being, and that’s the perspective I’m trying to keep.)
- Locals, what do you make of these flashing yellow arrows on the left turn signals in Huntsville? Was “yield on circular green” really that hard? Is this really better?
- Picked up some Blair’s Golden Death in my hot sauce order this year. Nice habanero front, with a mustard undercurrent quickly following. Heat is assertive, but with a relatively low ceiling. I’m going to do some wings with it over the break.
- Santa Claus scored. Nothing more yet because I never know who is reading. But it’s good.

My route to work includes what I believe was one of the first flashing yellow arrow lights. Apparently it’s the new standard country wide. I’m not a fan. Just about every day as I’m coming home down Capshaw/Old Monrovia near Providence Elem, as I come around the bend headed west, the first thing I always see is a yellow light of some sort and instinctively think I need to slow down for a coming red light. It’s not that I can’t tell the shape, I just my reflexes process “yellow light” before my eyes get the detail of “ohh it’s just a blinking arrow”.
Overall idea: 3/10
Correction/clarification: My route to work includes what I believe is one of the first yellow arrow lights *in the Huntsville area*. I’m lead to believe this b/c I think there was an al.com article about it. Or maybe a reddit thread…
Georgia made a mistake, but SC made a bigger one. All that time to find a head coach and they give the job to Muschamp? Ray Tanner needs his head examined.
Water heaters are an excellent example of, “They don’t make ’em like they used to.” We had one that lasted 30 years. It died in 2003.
The one we replaced it with lasted 7.
I think it would have been better for everyone if Smart had gotten the Carolina job.
