- I weigh 264.5 pounds, which is a four-year low for me. It’s 32.5 pounds off my all-time high, but still 84.5 pounds to go. That’s all right. Onward.
- It would appear that Tony Kanaan is going to sign with Chip Ganassi for 2014. I’m glad he has a deal. He has said he’s a veteran, and he shouldn’t have to bring money with him to get a seat. I tend to agree. Glad we’ll have you to pull for next year, TK.
- Saintseester and I had a good lunch at Brickhouse yesterday, but it still isn’t The Tavern.
- I am rapidly losing patience with my football team. I don’t think anyone who knows me believes me, but I am eminently capable of becoming thoroughly uninterested in college football. Throw a couple more doses of this kind of bullshit at me and see how it works out.
- Is my elder son going to be a band kid? Don’t know yet. He’s learning trumpet this year. Will I be following him to away games and marching competitions next year? We’ll see.
- Speaking of my elder son, he’s going to cut the grass next year. He’s really excited about it. I’ve already told him what my dad told me: “Son, this is going to be fun twice.”
- Best I can tell from online research, I think the speech pathologist who made such a dramatic difference in my life 30 years ago is still practicing. I may see about buying her lunch sometime soon.

I’m becoming quickly disheartened by UA football as well. You would not have seen my FB rant, but I am pretty well pissed off that 85 players and a dozen coaches cannot simply do the right thing. It’s maddening. UA is my family’s school (I went to Birmingham-Southern, myself) and I love T-Town, but they really need to get their shit together or this will be a season to forget, even though we may win every game.
I doubt I’d ever check all the way out, but I might start paying attention like my dad does. He’s generally aware of whether Alabama is having a good or bad year, and he’ll plan/attend two or three events per season centered around watching games.
We have the full-up HD extended super-duper package on cable almost exclusively for sports, and mostly for football at that. I could tolerate watching IndyCar races in standard definition. When my happy times are continually jeopardized by the respective judgments of 18- to 21-year-old kids, I might need to redefine what makes happy times for me.
Congrats on the weight loss! You are more than a 1/3 of the way there, that is awesome. : D
Totally unrelated: a thought for your marriage series. Will you be writing at all about how you speak about your spouse/marriage to others? For me, it’s one of the major “tells” as to who has a good marriage and who does not and (correspondingly) I try to be especially conscious of the story I am presenting to others (and telling myself) about my marriage.
Twice? I still love mowing the yard. Get a nice push mower (not self propelled) and get yourself some free exercise.
Thank you, Amanda! And indeed, I think you can expect to see that treated in the last installment. 🙂
Baseball, it’s not so bad. I just tend to be wanting to do something else!
