Thursday miscellanea #244

• If you missed my piece at Rocket City Mom yesterday, go check it out.  It’s about Hot Shots, a support group for Tennessee Valley children with Type 1 diabetes.
• Our pastor David Tubbs gave one of the best sermons I’ve ever heard last Sunday.  I’m going to expound a bit on a couple of things he said soon, but for now, listen to it here.
• I had a warm, close relationship—maybe one part maternal, three parts sororal—with the last regular babysitter I ever had.  She had a lot to do with my tastes in music, my sense of humor, and frankly, how I saw the world.  I’m going to see her this weekend for the first time in 30 years.  I’m really looking forward to it.
• Sometimes I think a fresh, homemade pimiento cheese sandwich on soft, crusts-cut-off store-bought white bread must be the most Southern food there is.
• Halo: Spartan Assault comes out today!  Windows Phone 8 version is exclusive to Verizon for 30 days, though.  Wow, that seems needlessly divisive, Microsoft.  But, it won’t matter to me.  It’s going on my tablet.
• If you run a WordPress blog, let me highly recommend the plugin Bad Behavior.  This is a customizable, comment spam-killing plugin that turns those damnable spambots away before they ever hit your server.  If they don’t hit your server, they don’t create processes and chew CPU on shared hosting, dig?  I’m so pleased with what it’s done for BoWilliams.com.  Sent the author a tenner.
• Pinterest!  I just started in earnest this week.  Don’t know if I’m doing it “right” or not, but it’s fun.
