Our pastor mentioned McDonald’s this morning as part of a larger point about how thoroughly children change your routine.
I started thinking about it, and I can’t remember the last time I went to McDonald’s. I try not to eat fast food any more often than a time or two a month, but McDonald’s never gets the nod. I don’t think even Lea and the boys go there. They like Sonic and Wendy’s.
The last thing I really liked at McDonald’s was the sausage, egg, and cheese McGriddles breakfast sandwich. Unfortunately that got a tad habitual, so I had to stop. (Mmmm, sure did dig that beastie and a large black coffee!)
Burgers at McDonald’s? Seriously? Forget it. I ate a lot of Big Macs in high school and college, yet somehow carried no particular affection for them forward. The Quarter Pounder is a bit bland. Ever consider that it’s just more of all of the same stuff on the standard McDonald’s hamburger or cheeseburger, itself hardly a paragon of deliciousness?
Then there’s the endless in-and-out stream of this-is-not-a-Big-Mac-or-a-Quarter-Pounder burgers. Remember the Arch Deluxe? The McDLT? How about the Big ‘n’ Tasty? Wikipedia tells me that one died not even two weeks ago. Watch for the next expensively and massively researched market failure, soon to appear at a McDonald’s near you!

I can’t remember the last time I went to McDonalds, unless you count yesterday. On the way home from the LSU game in Nashville we stopped for a BEC biscuit. It was early and it was the first thing we found that was open.
The only good thing at McD’s is the fish sandwich. With the exception of Wendys, fast food is pretty much all the same.
My brother has a theory about Sonic. He thinks they hired a couple of college guys to sit around and invent the most fattening, artery-clogging food combinations imaginable. Tater tots, eggs, cheese, sausage, all wrapped up together. Yum.
I’ll tell you I think McD’s is doing one thing right. They’ve revamped their coffee brew and added several coffee-esque drinks, as well as smoothies. I’ll never eat a burger there, but if I have to grab a quick drink, I’m loving the joe.
you forgot the McLean Deluxe. I was with Dad one time and he ordered “a MA CLEAN deluxe” the cashier said “do you want cheese on that” his reply was, “did I say I wanted cheese on that, if I wanted that, I would have said I want a McLean deluxe with cheese” It was funny and mortifying all at the same time. But, it is a memory and one I will cherish. 🙂
I don’t have much occasion to eat fast food with Dad anymore, but whenever I do I’m in charge of ordering. That is non-negotiable.
