- One of Dad’s neighbors just came back from Destin with several hundred pounds of fish. We grilled some amberjack last night, and it was delicious. Was it the last time for a while?
- Nuke the ruptured oil well? We definitely need fresh thinking. I think we’ve all had enough of the “lube and thrust,” or whatever they’re calling this week’s clusterfuck concerted effort to halt the flow.
- Ford announced the end of Mercury yesterday. The nameplate is not at all relevant and I’m sure it’s the right thing to do, but it’s still a little sad. If you have a Turnpike Cruiser and it’s pretty where you are, drive it today!
- As a Twitter acquaintance of mine wrote yesterday, in what bizarro world is Bill Clinton still married and Al Gore on the way to divorce? Come on, guys. Forty years, and then separate? Seriously?

My first car was a 79 Mercury Monarch. Thing quit on me time and time and time again. I still remember a mechanic in Tuscaloosa hand-setting the timing on the points on that beast in my freshman year. I hated it and bought a new Geo Storm as soon as I could. RIP you piece of garbage.
Ah, the Granada/Monarch/Versailles! Good times. These. Are. The. Good. Times.
