- “The earthquake is also a reminder that while natural calamities do not discriminate between rich countries and poor ones, their effects almost invariably do.” God be with all those hurting in Haiti right now.
- There are links to several good relief options here. Please do not give by SMS on your mobile phone; the carriers gobble a good bit of that money.
- I watched Jennifer’s Body while I was sick last weekend. It was rather what I hoped it would be. You remember that delightful quality of Heathers—that it played pretty straight if you watched it over the top of the newspaper, but it was hilarious if you paid attention? There’s some of that vibe there.
- You know, I’ve never had a particular reason to dislike USC before. I’ve got one now. Good riddance. (Really, I just don’t think little Laney Kiffin could handle the SEC year in and year out.)
- Our esteemed president just established a Council of the Governors by executive order. I’m sure it’s all right. Don’t worry about it.
- Conan O’Brien’s anger is thoroughly justified. Jay Leno needs to man up and take a (figurative) bullet, NBC needs to let him, and that needs to be the end of it. There is no other “resolution” I find even remotely satisfactory.
- Not quite halfway on pescetarian January. I had a little bit of dip that had a few bacon bits in it late last week, and that’s been the only deviation. I’m making interesting discoveries, and preparing a month-end post.

I was waiting on you to post something about that weasel Lane. For the life of me I can’t understand what USC was thinking in hiring him. What has the little shit DONE? Nothing at all. Tennessee fans might be dumb enough to be upset, but they really came out on top in this debacle. Yeah, they lost some good recruits, but now that moronic AD can hire somebody who might actually care about building the program back up.
Poor old Monty must have terminal heartburn from having to swallow his pride all day every day. When he came to TN he uttered something like, “Somebody has to keep an eye on the boy.”
I’m glad you’re eating a lot of fish, Bo. It’s good for your heart. 🙂
Heh…Jennifer’s Body. I guess _Megan Fox Has Nice Hooters_ is not kosher for the MPAA?
Tennessee fans in this house are pleased. May USC get what they paid for.
And Doctors Without Borders is a fabulous option.
Cheryl: Thanks, sweet. It’s been an interesting ride, this diet. I already know I’m not keeping it intact at the end of the month, but there are plenty of elements of it–and foods I’ve discovered I like–that I am keeping.
BamaDan: You know, she’s just ok to me. I really wanted to see it because Diablo Cody wrote it. I don’t know whether I’d have watched it otherwise.
kemtee: Indeed, on both counts!
