Thursday miscellanea #409

  • “She’s real fine, my 409…” That was one of the first Beach Boys songs I heard, from my dad’s collection of 45s. It was the B-side of “Surfin’ Safari.” I can remember asking my dad what a 409 looked like, and being disappointed when he showed me a picture of just some old plain-looking Chevy with painted steel wheels.
  • My friend Carol just became a Client Advisor for Century BMW! I wish her all the best, and I’m certain she’ll do a fine job. If you’re shopping for a new or pre-owned BMW, you can get her at cmarks@centuryauto.com. No connection other than she is my friend and I would like her to do well.
  • I finally got down to Earth and Stone to try their artisan ice cream, and it is outstanding. I had a scoop of “Dreamsicle” for dessert yesterday. Sampled the bourbon butter pecan, and I’m really looking forward to going back for a whole scoop of that.
  • Well, the Steve Sarkisian thing was bizarre. He’ll be a good trivia answer 50 years from now.
  • I have a new go-to green sauce. Heartbreaking Dawns’ The Green is phenomenal. I may just have to resign myself to a good green sauce being a gourmet product until I get around to experimenting on my own. (Had to go to the new Kroger the last time I needed tomatillos.)
  • Here is some cool old material on the first microwaves that were small enough to go in a house. I can remember my dad’s friend having one of the mentioned refrigerator-sized ones at his lake house. I think it said “Radarange” in that cool old-car emblem script on it.
  • As I type no freeze is forecast for the next two weeks.
