Thursday miscellanea #314

  • My thoughts and prayers are with the people of France, and most especially the friends and family of those who lost their lives in yesterday’s attack. God be with you.
  • I don’t like driving with my coat on, so I usually lay it in the back seat before I go somewhere. It’s no problem when I do that from my garage, but I did that last night from work and froze my butt off for 10 minutes until the heater caught up. Wow, it’s cold.
  • The boys are delayed this morning. I think most school systems in the area are. I’m confident we never got out of school just for temperature when I was a kid.
  • This is the first year since 2005 that I haven’t cared who wins the college football national championship. I honestly don’t know whether I’ll even watch it.
  • I enjoyed Alabama’s season. I loved giving it to Auburn and then capturing another SEC title. I loved that Coach Saban, as the Alabama coach, remains undefeated vs. both Tennessee and Arkansas. I loved that Blake Sims said no, this is my team, and took it. I did not love our secondary. Looking forward to improvement there next year.
  • Did you hear about three snowmobilers in Alaska seeing just the snout of a moose buried in an avalanche and digging her out, saving her life? Awesome story, guys. Thanks.
  • I’ll have to wait until Thursday miscellanea #3,142 for a better pi Thursday miscellanea, and statistically that’s all but certain to occur after my death. So we’ll call this one it.

    • Thank you, Miria! You actually alerted me to it with this comment. I took December off from RCM, and I hadn’t been checking the site. I have a new Arsenic & Old Spice coming out tomorrow, and probably would have seen it then.

I’m embarrassed that Jennifer’s kind words for me sat out there without my acknowledgement for over a week. ๐Ÿ™

  1. Re: your comment about your Car Heater to warm up…Your probably are to young to know that when one bought a New Car in 1953, that the car salesman asked if you wanted a heater in it… BTW they were an “Extra” !

    • Fred, I did know that! My dad did a lot of car restoration when I was young, so there were always classic car magazines around that frequently referred to a heater as optional equipment.

  2. Are you freaking kidding me? I don’t care who wins the NC either, but I watched both semi-final games. This is it. No more college football for almost 9 months.

    • Bansidhe, that surprises me that you don’t care who wins. ISTR you have some connection to Ohio State. You were born there? Or a parent? Something like that. Help me out.

I probably will watch, now that I’m over the worst of my disappointment. I’d like to see what happens.

  3. Dad and my uncle are OSU grads. I love that the only two times they have played Clemson they have lost. In yo face! Dad pulls for them when they play everyone else, but having spent 27 years of his life teaching at CU, he’s a Tiger.
I have no loyalties to Ohio State University (no THE you arrogant bung holes). I just hope it’s a good competitive game. If Oregon finally wins a NC, will they shut up about it?

    Reply
    • That’s kind of where I am with it. Oregon needs to win this one. If they don’t, then they start getting the “they can’t close the deal” rhetoric.
