Thursday miscellanea #311

  • Orion just missed its launch window. Hope it can go up tomorrow.
  • Until Sunday, it might as well be September—at least as far as the weather is concerned.
  • Is 2014 Nick Saban’s greatest coaching job? Maybe so. Incidentally, my friend Jenny could have written this a week ago.
  • I usually get a watch for myself at Christmas. This year I got a phone. I may do a post soon on how radically the billing model for cellular telephones has changed over the past year or so. The Cliffs Notes: you probably don’t want to do the subsidized hardware/two-year contract thing ever again.
  • Florida looks to have decided on Jim McElwain, but may be hung up on his buyout. I think he’d be an outstanding hire for the Gators, and they need to just write the check. That’s kind of how a buyout works, folks.
  • New AC/DC? No surprises. Really? Do you even wonder about such? If you like AC/DC, you still want it. Go get it.
  • Glen A. Larson died last month. He was as much an ’80s icon as anyone. RIP.
  • We have an intriguing new festival possibility in the area, but it’s pitched right up front as being for millennials. Wow, just make me feel old, how about it? (I never felt young enough for HYP either.)

  1. Ditto the MeshFest, which my old, soon to be bi-focaled eyes read as MehFest. Way to alienate me and my expendable cash right off the bat.

  2. FWIW, I never felt “young” enough for HYP either. Since they seem to center all of their events on drinking, drinking, drinking, and maybe doing something while drinking. I’m sure that’s not the reality of the events, but their marketing skews heavily that way and that’s just not my bag.

    • Heh! I didn’t ever notice that specifically. I always just thought the photos looked like a college party, and that their stated upper age limit was probably “just being nice.” 🙂
