- I tried two new-to-me drink lines this week: LaCroix sparkling water and Zevia soda. I’ll finish the LaCroix that I bought, but I’m unlikely to get it again. The Zevia, however, is an intriguing product. Zevia is zero-calorie soda sweetened primarily with stevia, but also with a bit of erythritol and monk fruit extract (in other words, no artificial sweeteners). I liked the cola and really liked the black cherry. I’m looking forward to trying more flavors.

- Mark McCarter muses about a return of Big Spring Jam. It’d be great, with a little booking care. And think about the proliferation of food trucks and breweries since the last Jam!
- Played with a colleague’s iPhone 6 Plus this week. When I hold it in my right hand I can’t reach the whole screen with my thumb, and it’s not even close. I think this means I won’t even consider a Lumia 1520 when I replace my phone next month.
- It’s as boring a college football weekend as we ever have, I think. Tonight’s UCLA-Arizona State game might be the best of the week.
- I’m getting all the way off Facebook (including the BoWilliams.com page). I’ve had enough. Still considering timing, but I’ve made my mind up. Maybe I’ll start quacking about the superiority of my behavior, like your jackass friends who don’t own a television and constantly wedge such into conversation.

I was trying to hold out for the 6 plus. But then I went into the Apple store and did some serious tinkering with it for a good 20 minutes. I just couldn’t get over that you pretty much have to use two hands to use it (I have relatively small hands for a man). That’s too much of a restriction for me, as I use my phone on the go a lot.
So I just went for the iPhone 6 and have been very happy with it (my wife had already had hers since launch day, so I’d gotten to play with that model already… I also got to try out her phone… heeyyy yo!!!!).
I did apparently dodge a bullet, with “bendgate” predominantly affecting 6 plus. I bought a case (as I always do) which I already had the requirement of something that adds some rigidity. I think Apple’s going to have to do something like they did with the iPhone 4’s “antennagate” and issue free cases to people again. They’ll probably also look into reformulating their aluminum alloy they make the body of the phone with. I had a bad feeling that a phone this thin was going to have some sort of issue, be it structural, signal issues, heat, etc. So far it seems only structural, which is probably one of the tougher ones to fix.
I’d bet competitors that were looking to put out really thin phones are taking a second look to make sure they don’t fail here as well.
The iOS 8.0.1 flub wasn’t a surprise (that’s just the software business folks) and I don’t think that’ll be a big deal in the long run. I’m looking forward to the revised patch, b/c there are some annoying bugs (just annoyances, not deal breakers) it will hopefully resolve.
It seems like carbon fiber would have a genuinely practical application here, doesn’t it? Light, good-looking, and stiff as hell.
I was just mourning the days of Big Spring Jam last night! I’d be one of the first to buy a ticket if the festival came back. I only missed one year of BSJ and have all the t-shirts, still. My favorites bands played BSJ and some that was my first exposure. I too was on the first few rows for Cheap Trick. I could NOT believe the attention Rick Nielsen was getting from girls young enough to be his daughter and possibly grand daughter!!
Also, have you heard of Soda Stream for your carbonated beverage fix? Check it out online or at places like Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

I attended the first 13 Big Spring Jams, and I can’t remember whether I ever went back to one after my streak died. Saw lots of great folks, didn’t we? That Alice Cooper show that year was phenomenal.
I have heard of Soda Stream, but haven’t checked it out yet. I will. Thanks. I’m impressed with the Zevia so far, but it’s expensive.
