Before you accuse me of prejudice, read this

I’ve reached a bit of a turning point during the first part of this year, dear readers. Let me tell you about it.

If you want to know what I think and why I think it, then well, guess what? I write about such things from time to time right here at BoWilliams.com. It’s not hard to figure out where I’m coming from on most things.

If you want to talk about something with me—here or in person—then I welcome that too. I’ve said many times that it doesn’t make it into the post unless I’m ready to discuss and defend it. In many cases, we shall have such an exchange politely and enjoyably.

However, we need to make sure we’re clear on something, you and I.

If during the course of our exchange it becomes attractive to you to suggest that I hold my position for some reason other than I’ve stated, then be very, very careful.

I am smart enough to know why I think what I think. I am self-aware enough to have sorted anything that needs sorting. And I am articulate enough to communicate it.

You must know in particular that I am finished entertaining from anyone the slightest notion that I hold any political or moral position I hold because of prejudice, whether racism, sexism, or whatever.

Should you assert such, you may expect my reaction to be immediate, honest, and unedited. If I conclude such commentary is warranted, said reaction may include my unfiltered assessment of your intelligence level, your work ethic (specifically the vigor with which you pursue knowledge), and/or your character.

I’m not letting the slightest whisper of it by anymore in the name of going along to get along. Such a posture has only emboldened those who traffic so lazily and reflexively in these accusations.

It stops today.
