Westbound out of Huntsville in the evening? Good luck

565Right now there is long-term road construction on Madison Pike just east of Slaughter Road, and at Madison Boulevard and County Line Road. The former is completely closed; the latter, operating at significantly reduced capacity.

These are both rush hour choke points under normal conditions. In their current states, an evening delay on I-565 westbound means an evening delay for anyone trying to drive west. If you’re traveling west in the evening, a wreck at the Greenbrier exit might as well be a wreck half a mile down the road from you.

That’s how delicate it all is right now.

University/72 and Old Monrovia/Capshaw were borderline unusable until 7 pm or so before the construction. I shudder to think what they’re like now.

The Madison Pike closure has already dumped a lot of traffic on Farrow and Eastview (and that was an awful lot of folks’ “shortcut” already). I think Mill Road gets it next. Think about it: folks on post can use Gate 7, go north on Zierdt, cross Madison Boulevard to Shelton, and turn left on Portal Lane. Research Park folks can endure Madison Boulevard long enough to get to Shelton and do the same thing.

Ready to have Mill backed up across Hughes?

  1. Shut the heck up and then delete this post, dammit! I use Mill all the time, and nobody else has figured it out yet.

  2. Westbound Capshaw between Jeff and Indian Creek(Providence) has become a stand still for a while on the commute home. The timing on the light at Capshaw and Jeff is terribly off, cycling way too fast for Capshaw traffic.

I’ve had to change to taking 565 to Madison Blvd to Slaughter to 72 to Nance to get to the Harvest area.

    • Depending on when you leave, you might have a look at Farrow to Slaughter. It’ll probably still be congested, but that’s quite a dip to the south you’re taking right now to go to Harvest.
