Thursday miscellanea #248

  • The boys get anxious right before school starts. Nate gets hyper (interrupts more, stuff like that), and Aaron gets a bit short, usually slowly leading up to a meltdown. The meltdown came yesterday. They’ll be fine by the third day of school or so. Parents, please remember that the start of a new school year is stressful for the kids, too. Hang in there, guys.
  • Did you know that many species of tuna are warm-blooded?  I didn’t until this week. It makes them more effective predators because they can swim faster in cold water than both their prey and competing predators.
  • The Red Cross refused me as a blood donor yesterday because my blood pressure check was high. This has happened nearly as long as I’ve been donating. The solution is to check me again in a few minutes, and that reading will be fine. Only, the Red Cross won’t do that anymore.  LifeSouth will, so I guess I donate with them now. Red Cross, this is a silly policy, and I suspect it will cost you a lot of money.
  • This is my first 60,000-step week. I’m on track to get there.
  • Longtime Cheap Trick drummer Bun E. Carlos has sued the band, claiming he’s not been paid money he’s owed.  Figure it out and get it settled, guys.  This certainly would be an unfortunate way for such a great band to go out.
  • I may start carrying my old Android phone (SIM-less) as a mini-tablet. I remain a big fan of Windows Phone, but the number of apps that are only developed for Android and iOS is frustrating.
  • Starting inside linebacker Trey DePriest has been suspended for a violation of team rules.  There are multiple reports that he was reported in the Taco Bell drive-through in the middle of the night after having been placed on a strict diet.  He’s expected to be back in a week or so.

  1. The best place to donate is at LifeSouth inside Huntsville Hospital. I believe they will give you a voucher that you can redeem for movie credit – if you can find the right office inside th hospital. Not sure if that benefit s only for employees, but it’s worth checking into.

    • Thank you for the tip, Lynda! I can make the LifeSouth office on the way to any number of things, so I may see how that goes first.

White coat hypertension isn’t exactly a rare thing. The more I consider this new Red Cross rule, the stupider it seems.
